I think cabbage rolls are one of those dishes that you either like it or don’t. I liked them from early on when I tried them the first time, but my husband didn’t like them at all. When I made this, he gave it a try again, this time HE DID!! It all depends on how you season them.
I found this recipe on the internet and I added minced garlic (or you can use garlic powder as well) to enhance the taste. I wanted a simple but hearty meal, and I was not in the mood for cooking. So, I went the lazy way and made slow cooker cabbage rolls. They turned out really good, yet very simple and easy to make.
12 leaves cabbage
1 cup cooked white rice
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 teaspoons ground black pepper
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil cabbage leaves 2 minutes; drain.
In large bowl, combine 1 cup cooked rice, egg, milk, garlic, onion, ground beef, salt, and pepper. Place about 3- 4 tablespoonful of meat mixture in center of each cabbage leaf, and roll up, tucking in ends. Place rolls with ends face down in slow cooker.
In a small bowl, mix together tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over cabbage rolls.
Cover, and cook on Low 8 hours
They taste quite good. You won’t regret it. Promise!
