Chicken Karaage (Japanese Chicken Nuggets)

Who doesn’t like chicken nuggets? They are like the simplest meal but they feed you well. If you are bored with the same ol’ chicken nuggets you have been making, try this one and see how you like them!

I think Chicken Karaage is better. It has more flavor to it than regular chicken nuggets- well, different kind of flavor. My Japanese friend gave me this recipe, and I LOVE it!!! I think of Hawaii when I eat Chicken Karaage… it’s a favorite snack that we eat there all the time, especially if it’s accompanied by a bowl of hot ramen noodle. Yumm!!

So, here how to make it:

5- 6 pieces chicken thigh
oil to fry
Flour or Cornstarch (or Potato starch)

Marinate:
Soy sauce (about 1/2 cup or more)
Sake or mirin (2-3 tablespoon)
Sugar (about 1/2-1 tablespoon)
Grated ginger (about 1/2 tablespoon)

I usually just eyeball how much of the ingredients to put in, so this is just an estimate. You can add more or less of any of these things according to your taste. Garlic and ginger, you can add as much or as little as you want, depending on your liking.

Cut the chicken into a small pieces. In a bowl, mix all ingredients for marinating. Add chicken into the bowl. Let it marinate for at least 30min or more (the longer the better).

Heat oil in a pan. Coat the chicken with flour or cornstarch before you fry them, and deep fry until golden brown. Put the chicken onto the paper towel to drain.

You are set!
