I make my pasta sauce from scratch. It’s more savory and hearty than the store-bought ones because I know what I put in to it. My family love the sauce, so I have been making it often.
I usually put a lot of meat and whatever vegetables I could put in to make the taste even better. I’ve found that the bell pepper makes it taste like I have been simmering the sauce all day long! So, give it a try. It’s very easy and simple to do. You can use the sauce to make baked pasta as well.
1 lb lean ground beef
1 sausage (optional, but it adds more flavor)
2 cloves of garlic- smash and minced
1 medium onion
4 medium size tomatoes or 1 can of crushed tomatoes
1 small can tomato sauce
2 cups of baby bella mushroom
1 cup of red pepper- chopped
1 cup of broccoli- cut it in small pieces (or 1 cup of baby spinach)
1 tsp basil
1 tsp italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp oregano
salt and pepper to taste
2- 3 cups or more water (depending how thick you want the sauce to be)
Brown the ground beef in a pot. Drain and use the juice to fry the garlic and onion. Put in chopped mushroom then stir fry it together with onion and garlic until mushroom appears shrunk.
Return the ground beef to the pot, mix well with the previous stirred fry ingredients. Toss the red pepper and broccoli into the pot, and all the remaining spices.
Pour in tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir then add water. Let it simmer on low for at least 20 minutes.
Remove from heat and serve!
